Broun Applauds Ethicon, Inc. Expansion in Athens

Washington, Sep 14 - U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement regarding Ethicon, Inc.’s planned addition of a 100,000 square foot facility in Athens, Georgia.  The expansion is expected to lead to the creation of 75 new jobs and an investment of $185 million through 2016.  The facility will complement the company’s Cornelia facility, which produces the majority of the world’s surgical sutures.

“I am thrilled that yet another great company is expanding to Georgia’s 10th Congressional District,” said Broun.  “It is a tremendous testimony to the strength of our community, as well as to the world-class business environment we’ve fostered right here at home.  Having toured their facilities and met with their management, I know that the new Ethicon, Inc. facility will mean good, high-paying jobs for Georgians and broad economic growth as they make major local investments.  I congratulate the Governor’s Department of Economic Development and the local Athens-Clarke County Development Foundation for solidifying this new addition to our already flourishing health care industry.

“This is a powerful example of the type of job creation that we need to pull us out of this recession and back to prosperity.  I look forward to welcoming Ethicon into our community, and to working with its leadership to ensure that the company will have continued success here in Athens.”
