SHICHINOHE, Japan – Sailors from Naval Air Facility Misawa brought a little Halloween fun to the children at the Bikoh-en Orphanage, Oct. 30.

NAFM sailors and family members organized a fun day for the kids that included games, costumes and a barbecue.

Tatsuya Goto, Bikoh-en director, said the children were excited and happy about the visit.

"They've been looking forward to today's meeting for several weeks," said Goto. "They really enjoyed playing, and eating with NAFM sailors. They also can't wait for the next visit."

Petty Officer 1st Class Gio Espinosa, a personnel specialist, coordinated the event, which was sponsored by the NAFM First Class Petty Officer Association.

"The visits to Bikoh-en are very popular for the children as well as the sailors and their families," said Espinosa. "We try to visit throughout the year, and are planning to come back soon for a Christmas party."

Petty Officer 1st Class Syed Sami, a personnel specialist, found the visit personally rewarding.

"Looking around and seeing the children and sailors playing together made me feel good," he said.

NAFM's FCPOA has had a long relationship with the home and organizes visits to the home several times a year. They also take on beautification projects around the facility, including the recent construction of a safety fence around the play yard.
