Medicare’s open enrollment period begins today. I urge current Medicare beneficiaries to review their plans each year and evaluate their health status, the benefits of their current plan, premium increases, and more. Seniors, family members, and caregivers can ask questions and learn more about Medicare by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or by visiting Medicare’s website.
The Medicare Trustees have told us that Medicare goes insolvent by 2024, but I’m working to strengthen and protect Medicare for today’s seniors and for future generations. Our plan includes no changes for those at or near retirement, guarantees coverage for future generations of seniors, and allows beneficiaries to pick the plan that suits them best. Our plan also repeals a part of the health care reform law that puts a panel of unelected bureaucrats in Washington between Medicare beneficiaries and their doctors, affecting seniors in the program today and threatening their access to quality care. I view Medicare as a promise made to our seniors, and it must be a promise kept.
