Rep Speier Condemns Committee Chair’s Outing of Libyan Activists

10/222012

SAN MATEO, CA - Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-San Mateo/San Francisco) today released the following statement condemning Darrell Issa (R-CA), the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, for posting sensitive documents about the Benghazi attacks that identify key Libyan activists and civilian allies on the Committee website.

"I believe the Chairman’s release of sensitive documents, identifying key Libyan activists, was reckless.

“In an inexcusable rush to judgment, Chairman Issa posted sensitive documents on the Committee website without working with security experts, intelligence officials, or his own Committee members to determine which names or information should be redacted in order to protect human lives.

"I find Chairman Issa’s actions grossly irresponsible and unprofessional as a Member of Congress, not to mention the prospective impact it may have on our reputation in Libya and the rest of the Middle East.”
