CONGRESSMAN BERG PRESENTS CAROL M. WHITE FEDERAL GRANT TO TNT KID’S FITNESS

FARGO, N.D.– Congressman Rick Berg today joined with local community leaders and Sally Johnson, a representative from Senator John Hoeven’s office, to tour TNT Kid’s Fitness – a not-for-profit organization that promotes youth fitness through a variety of activities focusing on children with special needs.  Berg also presented the non-profit organization with the third installment of the federal Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant they received.

“TNT Kid’s Fitness is an organization that deserves to be commended for their work in improving the lives of our kids through good diet and exercise,” stated Berg.  “Their entire organization shows us how great public-private partnerships can be, and it’s great to see the way they are working together with other groups in the community to find creative ways to make a difference.”

Kim Pladson, Executive Director of TNT Kid’s Fitness, expressed gratitude for Berg’s advocacy of the organization since he was elected to the House of Representatives.

“I appreciate Congressman Berg and the time he has taken over the last year and a half by staying in touch with TNT Kid’s Fitness,” stated Pladson.  “Rick recognizes the impact TNT provides in getting all children of all abilities moving.  I know he cares about the future for our children and the importance to developing a foundation to healthy living.”

TNT Kid’s Fitness has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley, Sanford Health, Dakota Medical Foundation-Streets Alive, Moorhead Public Schools, and the City of Fargo to pilot a comprehensive after school program that addresses the nationwide childhood obesity epidemic by incorporating physical activity and nutrition education into existing after school programs.

The Carol. M. White PEP grant is awarded to public schools and community-based organizations for the purpose of beginning, expanding, or enhancing physical education programs.  Recipients must make efforts to ensure implemented programs help students meet state physical education standards and enhance participating student’s understanding of fitness and nutrition.

TNT Kid’s Fitness is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2005 working toward understanding, accepting, and helping all children grow stronger with confidence.  As TNT strives to offer a unique vision of quality programming, they continue to focus on children’s individual strength and ability.
