A member of the Texas National Guard works with a Border Patrol Agent and one of the dogs inspecting cars entering the checkpoint.
While Congressman Murphy was at the checkpoint, a Border Patrol dog alerted to piece of marijuana leaf the size of a ladybug hidden in the console of a pickup truck.
The Border Patrol uses dogs at the checkpoints that are highly trained to detect drugs and hidden illegal immigrants.
The Border Patrol has a 15 man ATV unit that patrols the rough border terrain. Each member receives extensive training to ride and navigate the land.
Cows and other livestock can be seen grazing on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande River.
The Rio Grande River separates the U.S. and Mexico. Crossing the river to enter the U.S. illegally can prove to be dangerous and deadly in many areas.
The terrain along the border is extremely rough and covered by bamboo like plants that easily hide people trying to cross the border. The Border Patrol's ATV unit patrols the area riding through paths that are barely wider than the vehicle.
