Open enrollment for Medicare available Monday

Open enrollment for Medicare beneficiaries interested in changing coverage plans opens Monday.

The Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program is offering one-on-one reviews to help beneficiaries pick the best coverage option, said Lt. Gov. and Department of Insurance director Mary Taylor.

“Determining the appropriate Medicare coverage should be done with the help of a family member or a knowledgeable and trusted adviser such as a representative from our OSHIIP program,” Taylor said. “This should be a careful, deliberate process so you secure a plan that best meets your health care needs and budget.”

In Montgomery County, three Medicare check-up events are scheduled to help seniors review coverage:

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Vandalia Senior Center, 21 Tionda Drive. Call 898-1232 for an appointment.
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 30, Earl Heck Center, 301 N. Main, Englewood. Call 836-7179 for an appointment.
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 13, Hithergreen Senior Center, 5900 Hithergreen, Centerville. Walk-ins only.

During the events, beneficiaries can learn about changes to Medicare, including new deductibles and co-pays, and Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D options. Attendees should bring a list of their prescriptions with dosages and preferred pharmacies, information on retirement coverage and other medical coverage they have, including VA coverage.

Seniors can also call OSHIIP at (800) 686-1578 with questions or for help with enrollment beginning Monday.
