U.S. Service Academy Nominations
In order to be considered for entry into one of our nation's service academies, applicants must obtain a nomination from the member of Congress who represents their community. It is Congressman Capuano's honor and privilege to perform this service for students of the 8th District.
U.S. Air Force Academy
Colorado Springs, Colorado
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Kings Point, New York
U.S. Military Academy
West Point, New York
U.S. Naval Academy
Annapolis, Maryland
Eligibility
To be eligible for a nomination to a service academy, applicants must also meet a variety of requirements including the following:
- Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 22
- Applicants must be United States citizens
- Applicants must have never been married
Applications
Applications must be sent to our Washington, D.C. office no later than December 31 to be considered. A completed application will include:
- The Congressional Nomination application form
- Letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or your principal
- SAT or ACT scores, sent directly from the Educational Testing Services
- Official school transcript, sent directly from your school
- Complete list of your extracurricular activities
- Three letters of recommendation from people who know you well, excluding family members and the aforementioned recommendation from your counselor or principal
- A 300-word essay discussing your interest in attending the academy
- A recent photograph
