U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Erin Gibson, 31, of Covington, Ohio, checks for a potential IV. injection site on a U.S. soldier wounded in an improvised explosive device blast in Wardak province, Afghanistan, July 8. Gibson is a flight medic with C Company, 3/82, currently serving on Forward Operating Base Shank with Task Force Corsair, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. Shank medevac gets a large share of the point-of-injury calls in Regional Command-East. "You're landing at the place where they've been injured," said Gibson. "Sometimes there's not even first aid that's been done before you get there, so it's a lot of bandaging and giving people airways that don't have any- the whole trauma scenario is a lot different than what I've done before."
