H.R. 6412 is expected to be considered on the House floor on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage.  This legislation was introduced by Rep. Robert Scott (D-VA) on November 16, 2010.

H.R. 6412 would require the Department of Justice to share criminal records with state sentencing commissions.

Currently, the U.S. Sentencing Commission (the federal sentencing body) has access to the Department of Justice’s national crime database.  However, state sentencing commissions have also requested for access to the national database to provide them with assistance determining effective sentencing policies.

There is currently no CBO score for H.R. 6412 as of press time.
