The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 5730 on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, under suspension of the rules, requiring a two-thirds majority vote for passage. This legislation was introduced by Rep. John Duncan, Jr. (R-TN).
H.R. 4658 would authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to convey to the Towee Falls Baptist Church a parcel of land in the Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee, which surrounds the church for an amount that would be equivalent to the fair market value. In addition, this bill would permit the Secretary to use the proceeds from the Baptist Church to acquire land in that forest from the Monroe County, Tennessee, Board of Education known as the “Doc Rogers Tract.”
Land Conveyances, Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee:
Conveyance of Towee Falls Baptist Church Parcel:
The Secretary of Agriculture may convey to the Towee Falls Baptist Church all rights, title, and interests of the U.S. in and to parcel approximately 66.5 acres of the Cherokee National Forest that is currently surrounding the Towee Falls Baptist Church.
In consideration of the conveyance of the parceled land, the Towee Falls Baptist Church shall pay to the Secretary of Agriculture, an amount equal to the fair market value of the parcel.
Acquisition of Doc Rogers Tract:
The Secretary of Agriculture may acquire from the Monroe County Tennessee Board of Education all rights, title, and interests of the Board of Education of the land in Monroe County, Tennessee, consisting of approximately 102 acres known as the “Doc Rogers Tract.”
