Would these be wives/widows/daughters of the GAR?

So unusual to see an un-leveled photo. Hand-held?

They were dressed so elegantly. Beautiful shot.

They are probably a women's auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, a fraternal organizations for Union veterans There were two such organizations, The Ladies of the G.A.R., composed of relatives of veterans, and the Womans' Relief Corps, whose members did not have to be relatives of veterans. They are still around, even though GAR is not.

They are marching in front of Charles T. Bainbridge's & Sons (according to the sign over the door), a stationery company then headquartered in Brooklyn, so I think these Maine exercises were at or around the Brooklyn Naval Yard. Bainbridge's was at 20 Cumberland Street, Brooklyn. It looks like the building is still there, though the street level windows and doors have been bricked in and reconfigured some.
