Cravaack Signs Legislation to Honor Fallen Korean War Heroes

Washington, D.C.– U.S. Representative Chip Cravaack (MN-8) has co-sponsored H.R. 2563, to authorize construction of a Wall of Remembrance at the Korean War Veterans Memorial.

Introduced by Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-4), this legislation provides for a list, by name, of members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were killed in action and the number of members who were wounded, missing, or held prisoner.  Additionally, the number of the Korean Augmentation members to the U.S. Army (KATUSA), the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, and the nations of the United Nations Command who were killed, wounded, missing, or held prisoner would also be listed.

Importantly, this project would be privately funded with no expense to taxpayers.

“I’m proud to support this bill that will honor those who served in Korea over sixty years ago by providing a visual record of their sacrifice, as well as the U.S. allies who deserve recognition for protecting American lives.  As we approach Veterans Day this week, we are profoundly grateful for the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much in the defense of our great nation,” said Rep. Cravaack.

Many veterans feel that while the Memorial in its current state is extraordinarily moving, it does not yet adequately convey the magnitude of their sacrifice.  The proposed Wall of Remembrance will list the names of the 33,686 Americans killed in the Korean War, as well as the numbers of casualties suffered by U.S. allies.

Rep. Cravaack serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee – where he is Vice Chair of the Aviation Subcommittee – the Homeland Security Committee, and the Science, Space and Technology Committee. The 8th Congressional District covers 18 counties in Northeast Minnesota.
