Murphy, Municipal Leaders Kick-Off Char Valley ‘Streetscape' Enhancement Project

Pittsburgh, PA — Congressman Tim Murphy (PA-18) today released the following statement after joining elected officials from Carnegie, Heidelberg and Scott Township to celebrate the launch of the Rt. 50 Corridor Tri-Community Streetscape Project.

“After years of planning, dedication and hard work, I'm thrilled to be on hand for the launch of the Tri-Community Streetscape Project,” said Congressman Tim Murphy. “On top of improving public safety, these investments will strengthen the ties of our local community by making it an even more inviting area to work and raise a family.”

The multi-municipal project will result in infrastructure repairs including new sidewalks, roads, installation of lighting, as well as other enhancements. A long-awaited update, the revitalization is expected to not only improve public safety, but also to upgrade the aesthetic look of the neighborhoods and encourage business and residential development.

Following damage from Hurricane Ivan, Congressman Murphy secured a federal grant in 2008 for reconstruction of Washington Pike, Carothers Avenue and Third Street in Heidelberg, Scott, and Carnegie. Working with local municipal officials and PennDOT, Murphy gathered community feedback, secured the right-of-ways, and ensured compliance with all regulations related to the project's design. A contract for the work will be awarded soon, and construction is estimated to begin January 1, 2013 and be completed by December 2013.
