    About
  1. Today’s overwhelming vote to place the national flood insurance program on sound financial footing to pay claims of those who suffered devastating losses from Superstorm Sandy is a good first step. On January 15th, we must build on this success by passing the remainder of the robust assistance package that is needed for New York, New Jersey, and other states affected by Sandy. I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the federal government fulfills its commitment to help families, businesses, and communities recover and rebuild.

    • I Tried leaving my opinion on your site but you restrict people out of your district. Well, I'm honestly bothered by that fact because your opinion effects mine freedom's. I am a disabled Air Force veteran and have done my time over seas. I am trusted by our president with a fully automatic AR-15. I fight for our freedom and our rights but now our Government is the one trying to take those rights away. Statistics clearly show that assault weapons are not the issue, but the mentally ill people who need treatment. Not all AR-15 are automatic and my biggest problem is I hunt, protect my family, and target practice with my AR-15. When I am hunting, which is a main source of my food, I only use a ten round magazine. In my personal opinion, schools need to be made safer for children and staff. Mandatory security in schools is a necessity especially when our government and state buildings are protected by guards but not our children. if my rights and more importantly my sons rights and safety are taken away. I hope my thoughts are considered. I'm positive there more then one veteran that would need a job. Thank you very much for your ears

Well Congresswomen, for some year now I have been asking your help as a veteran, to help me deal with the problems that I am having with the VA, and it seem like you have no say so as a congresswomen on my behave. I help you when you needed it but you let me down, is it just some of the vets that come to you gets no help, because I talk to some of my friend and they said that you fought for them, maybe there other reason why. the person in your office in White Plains got together with one the Va person and did a lot of thing against me but I believe in the powers of God and He will see me through, there will come another time when you will need my help and I will be there for you because that is who I am, I am a man of my word, our word is all that we have, be bless, Rev. •  Dear Nita, This is what your partisan and agenda driven politics have cost the average Westchester resident. Listen to Judge Pirro as she has the pulse of your constituents. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8pioDijlC8

  3. House Republican leadership's decision to adjourn Congress without providing assistance to families, businesses, and communities affected by Sandy is irresponsible and inexcusable. It is an abdication of our responsibility to help those affected by natural disasters that will have real and lasting consequences. We can pass a bill right now to help those affected by Sandy with broad and bipartisan support, yet Republican leadership has refused to hold a vote. Dysfunction in this chamber should not punish victims of Sandy all over again.

  5. The House should vote on the Biden-McConnell compromise immediately to avoid a tax hike for millions of American families and arbitrary budget cuts that would have a severe impact on critical services and economic growth and competitiveness. No compromise is perfect, but failing to pass this deal only ensures higher tax bills and reduced economic growth. Rather than adding poison pill language to kill the compromise, Republican leadership should hold an up or down vote.
  6. The American free market is the most effective means ever created to spur innovation in consumer products. But in the case of firearms, the success of this innovation has had tragic consequences. If we do not do more keep the deadliest weap...ons out of the hands of the most dangerous individuals, we will have ourselves to blame when the next massacre occurs.

  7. Today’s horrific act of violence in Newtown, Connecticut is senseless and heartbreaking. There are no words to express the profound grief we all feel at the loss of so many, especially young children. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their friends and family and the entire Newtown community.

We cannot tolerate mass shootings as a mere inconvenience or a normal part of our everyday lives. Easy availability of the deadliest weapons to the most dangerous people has cost countless lives and caused immeasurable suffering, never more so than today. Our expressions of sympathy must be matched with concrete actions to stop gun violence.
