Usama bin Laden killed in Pakistan Yesterday

Usama bin Laden killed in Pakistan Yesterday

As you may know, President Obama made a statement last night confirming the death of Usama bin Laden after almost ten years of searching for the terrorist responsible for nearly 3,000 deaths at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. President George W. Bush declared that we would find him, and last night that promise became a reality.

While we celebrate the defeat of the leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization, we have to remember that threats against us still exist. We know our enemies are waiting and calculating their next attack against us and the American way of life, and we cannot forget the threat they pose to innocent American civilians.

I applaud the diligence of our intelligence community and military for this achievement and victory against terrorism around the world.  The discipline and bravery that our military men and women have shown is commendable. I join President Obama, former President Bush and Americans everywhere in praising the fact that justice has been done. Just as September 11th brought us together out of grief and pain, I am confident this event will bring us together to celebrate the greatness of America, and the resolve we have, and carry out, when our citizens have been harmed or killed.

Legislative Activity This Week

This evening, the House will vote on H.R. 362, which will designate the United States Courthouse in Midland, Texas as the “George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush United States Courthouse and George Mahon Federal Building.” I am a cosponsor of this bill, and am proud to honor three great Americans and Texans.

Tomorrow, the House is expected to vote on H.R. 1213, which will repeal mandatory funding provided to states in the new health care law. I support this bill because it repeals another part of the health care law that the American people did not want. We must repeal this law and enact real reform that provides affordable care for all Americans.

The House will also consider H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, on Wednesday. I am a cosponsor of this bill, and will continue to support it because I do not believe taxpayer money should be used to fund any organization that provides abortion services. I believe the sanctity of human life must be honored and the rights of the unborn need to be protected from the point of conception. As a member of the Bipartisan Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to protect the rights of the unborn.
