Biggert Announces "2012 Hiring Our Heroes" Veterans Job Fair

THE EVENT IS SUPPORTED BY:
- U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th)
- U.S., Illinois, and Chicagoland Chambers of Commerce
- U.S. Senator Mark Kirk
- Illinois Governor Pat Quinn
- Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka
- Illinois Department of Employment Securities
- Veterans organizations, including the American Legion, DOL-VETS, ESGR, the Student Veterans of America, Operation Support Our Troops, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

WHAT:
With support from Biggert and other Illinois leaders, the 2012 Hiring Our Heroes job fair will be hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Chicagoland and Illinois Chambers of Commerce.  More than 130 employers and approximately 20 veteran service organizations are expected to participate.  Resume writing and interview skills workshops will be provided.

WHEN:
9 am to 1 pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2012

WHERE:
The Hilton Chicago
720 S. Michigan Avenue
Chicago, IL

WHY:
According to a recent report released by the U.S. Department of Labor, unemployment has soared to 12.1% in 2011 among veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan since September 11, 2001.  The 2012 Hiring Our Heroes job fair will offer veterans a one-stop shop for employment opportunities in the Chicago area.  Biggert’s veterans’ outreach coordinator will be in attendance.

“Our veterans have sacrificed so much to keep our nation safe and defend the liberties we enjoy,” said Biggert.  “Too often, veterans can face difficulty determining how their unique military experience translates into marketable job skills.  I commend the Chamber of Commerce for hosting this great event to help connect Illinois veterans with new opportunities and promising career choices.”

Walk-ins are welcome.  Additional information can be found here
