Boustany Announces More Than $5 Million for Water Treatment Systems in Vermillion, St. Landry and Jefferson Davis Parishes

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD, R-Southwest Louisiana, today announced more than $5 million in grants and guaranteed loans for water system improvements in three Southwest Louisiana Parishes.

The funding for water improvement will help communities in Vermillion, St. Landry and Jefferson Davis upgrade their systems, providing safe, clean, quality water,” Boustany said. “In addition, these funds will help each parish meet new environmental standards. Clean drinking water is essential, and I trust this will greatly benefit people in Southwest Louisiana.”

Boustany announced the funding as part of USDA’s Rural Development program.

  • In Vermillion, a $3 million guaranteed loan will fund the installation of new technology at the water treatment facility to increase volume in a cost effective manner and construction of a 246,000-gallon ground storage tank.

  • Melville in St. Landry received a $172,985 grant and $1,198,000 loan to extend sewer service and repair 12 pump stations.

  • In Jefferson Davis, a $1,166,000 loan will be used to construct a 400 gallons-per-minute water well, two iron filters and a 150,000-gallon elevated storage tank.

Melville Mayor, Pam Cannatella added, “We are very thankful to USDA for this grant, and I look forward to moving quickly to alleviate the on-going problems with our water treatment system.”
