Cancer Research
Brian discussing cancer research at Roswell Park. WNY: The Birthplace of Cancer Research 100 years ago, researchers at the New York Cancer Laboratory, the predecessor to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Western New York, gave cancer research to the world. And ever since, cancer research has played an important role in our local economy, attracting high paying research and support jobs to our region. Roswell and the burgeoning Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus hold tremendous promise to improve the quality of life and provide opportunities for job growth in our community. Read Brian's essay for the Buffalo News about how Western New York’s cancer research community stands to gain from the recently enacted health reform legislation.
Increasing Investment in Research, Enforcing Fair Pricing for Cancer Treatments Brian, a member of the Congressional Cancer Caucus , has testified several times before the House Budget Committee, urging increased federal investments in biomedical and cancer research. And, after learning that insurance companies were refusing to cover “smart drugs” developed by researchers that have been found to be more effective than traditional cancer treatments and with less severe side effects, Brian introduced legislation to require insurance that they be covered at the same level as traditional treatments.
