Statement of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert on H1N1 ("Swine Flu")

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement regarding H1N1, also known as "swine flu:"

"With dozens of probable or confirmed cases in our area alone, people are rightly concerned. As a mother and grandmother, I understand how it feels to worry that my child could be at risk because his or her school had an outbreak. The number one thing we have to do is focus on prevention. That starts with common-sense precautions like frequently washing your hands, and if you feel sick, don’t go to school or work to prevent spreading the disease to coworkers and friends. And to lessen the severity of sickness, you can get antiviral drugs from your doctor like oseltamivir or zanamivir, which is what the CDC recommends. Preventing this from becoming a more significant threat has to start with spreading accurate information. You can get that information from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control. For internet links and resources on precautions you can take, as well as symptoms to look out for, you can also click here."
