On the House Agenda This Fall
Posted by Randy | September 02, 2011
This week, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor outlined the House legislative agenda for the fall. The agenda will include targeting 10 major regulations for elimination and seeking to enact one major tax cut for businesses. You can see the agenda first-hand in this memo that Majority Leader Cantor sent to my colleagues here.

We need an agenda like this one that focuses on private sector growth.  Removing barriers to innovation and encouraging small business growth will help create the jobs we need to get our economy moving again.

I want to know what you think as we head into the fall session of Congress. Do you agree that we need to focus on solutions to encourage small business growth? Of the policies outlined in the agenda, which one do you think is most important? Leave your comments below.

The best thing that can be done for small business, and our economy, is to stop obamacare. Not much else will matter if Obamacare is not stopped. Beyond that, the gov't should not do complicated mazes in an effort to help business, which provide the food and health that the previous blogger mentioned, by the way. Just dismantle regulations and lower all taxes. The federal gov't is forcing federal buyers of office supplies to purchase from only 12 vendors in the US. 550 currently have GSA contracts and will lose all of that business. What prevents us from expanding or hiring anyone new is the bad business climate caused by the gov't involvement in the economy. And so much of that was caused by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The gov't should get out of the housing business.

President Obama has already addressed the regulation review issue so IF this congress finally decides to act that would move us forward. That is a very big IF however given they have accomplished virtually nothing so far, even less than the historic 'Do NOTHING Congress'...yes that is true, examime the record. Perhaps what should be on the agenda is repealing the Bush tax cuts....the American people are hopping mad as evidenced by the tone of town hall meetings across the nation, and many constituents were disgusted that their representatives didn't even accommodate this important exchange. On several occasions people who respond on this blog asked congressman Forbes for information on when and where he would sponsor such an event....and I have checked this blog every day and I didn't see a thing. If I missed it I'm sure sorry...It is my impression based on many of the issues raised here that a significant void exists between what the electorate wants to discuss and the priorities forthcoming from the representation. What would be interesting is a poll on this blog so the voters can weigh in on what the agenda should be....sadly the town hall meeting could have helped to define this....another lost opportunity.

Last I checked, the Senate must pass the legislation that Rep Cantor is proposing. Aint no way thats happening. Your time is better spent on taking to task the president for his role in circumventing the laws of the land. You guys can talk to your blue in the face and pass laws in the house that makes it look like your accomplishing something, but thats not good enough because it wont become the law of the land. Make the president defend the indefensible, his executive orders that fly in the face of the laws of the land. Cap and Trade defeated, enter EPA. card check defeated enter the NLRB. Dream Act defeated enter the order regarding illegal minors. I wonder is Congress has forfeited their OBLIGATION to protect the laws of the land. The kabuki theatre isnt very good. And neither is the performance of a Congress not willing to confront a chief executive running over the laws of the land.

there are too many loopholes for big business and big businessmen and women just look at Warren Buffett and others like him that use these loophole in our tax system to profit larger profits. I also believe that there are too many regulations on all our business in america large and small. The fed needs to get out of this business, example why did congress need to oversee professional sports and aliketo try a oversee a private business. I am with Eric Cantor on his top ten hit list for this fall. Reduce taxes and regulations and you will see job growth in america

WOW...The people do NOT want this irresponsible parade of extreme gutting of these proposals. I am shocked and I would argue that the public is going to be outraged when the details here are exposed. What has happened in this congress!!!

I fully support everything in Majority Leader Cantor's plan. I would rate overturning the new NLRB organizing regulations as the most urgent and important. The NLRB interference in Boeing's plant location runs a close second, with all new EPA regulations also in need of quick repeal. I would favor greatly reducing (or eleminating) funding for both the NLRB, and the EPA. Also, consider legislation to require Congressional approval of all current and future "Czars". Salaries for these "Czars" should be capped by congress within standard civil service scales no higher than GS13.
