Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, FY 2012 - Capacity Building Development grants

Grants are awarded to provide training and education programs for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplace, and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act.

 

The notice announces the availability of approximately $1.1 million for Susan Harwood Training Program Capacity Building Developmental grants. Evaluation preference will be given to organizations that have recently successfully completed an occupational safety and health training pilot grant.

Regional Partnership Grants to Increase the Well-Being of, and to Improve the Permanency Outcomes for, Children Affected by Substance Abuse

Description: 

The Administration for Children and Families, Children's Bureau, announces the availability of competitive grant funds authorized by the Promoting Safe and Stable Families program. These targeted grants will be awarded to regional partnerships that provide, through interagency collaboration and integration of programs and services, activities and services that are designed to increase the well-being of, improve permanency outcomes for, and enhance the safety of children who are in out-of-home placements or are at risk of being placed in out-of-home placements as a result of a parent's or caretaker's substance abuse.

 

The Child and Family Services Improvement and Innovation Act (Pub. L. 112-34) includes a new targeted grants program (section 437(f) of the Act), which directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to reserve a specified portion of the appropriation for regional partnership grants to improve the well-being of children affected by substance abuse.

BJA FY 12 Visiting Fellows Program

Description: 

To address emerging issues and build capacity to improve the administration of criminal justice, BJA is launching a new BJA Visiting Fellows Program. The purpose of this program is to leverage state, local, or tribal subject-matter expertise to assess areas of need and to develop strategies, tools, and policies in collaboration with BJA staff for the benefit of the criminal justice field. By hosting up to five Fellows, BJA will collaborate with practitioners and researchers to build capacity to address gaps in priority and emerging issues in the criminal justice field.

 

These Fellows will be expected to produce specific deliverables that can address these priority issues, such as outreach to BJA stakeholders, applied research tools, training curricula or toolkits, articles or publications, and provision of technical subject-matter assistance. Through this process, the Fellows will assist BJA in enhancing strategies and building capacity and then bring their Fellowship experience back into the field.

 

This program is funded under three programs: the Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program (Byrne Competitive Program); the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), and the Public Safety Officers Benefits’ (PSOB) Program.

BJA FY 12 Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Training and Technical Assistance Program

SMART FY 12 Sex Offender Management Fellowship Program

Description: 

The mission of the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking (SMART) is to assist states, the District of Columbia, territories, and tribal jurisdictions with developing and/or enhancing programs designed to implement the requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, and to promote innovation and best practices in the field of sex offender management.

 

The SMART Office will be funding for the first time three fellowship positions focusing enhancing the capacity of the SMART Office to provide technical assistance and support to state, local and tribal jurisdictions on their responses to sexual violence and exploitation in the context of sex offender management. The term sexual violence and exploitation is broadly defined for this solicitation and work and includes the following: sexual assault, sexual exploitation including sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, and child sexual abuse.

 

The fellowships will focus on

 

1) victims’ issues,

2) prevention and education, and

3) practices and research in Indian Country in the field of sex offender management.

 

The goal of these fellowships will be to work on multi-disciplinary issues with the relevant program offices within the Office of Justice Programs (Office of Victims of Crime, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the National institute of Justice, and the Bureau of Justice Statistics), as well as the Office on Violence Against Women, to explore and build a foundation within the field of sex offender management for the integration of effective victim-centered approaches, prevention and education programming, and sexual violence prevention and sex offender management programming in Indian Country.

BJA FY 12 Adult Drug Court Planning, Training, Technical Assistance, and Resource Center Initiatives

The purpose of the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug courts that effectively integrate evidenced-based substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over substance-abusing offenders.

 

Selected providers under this solicitation will support the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program grantees as well as the adult drug court field-at-large. BJA is seeking providers for the following five categories of activities:

 

1. Delivery of population-specific drug court planning training (adult, veterans, and tribal).

 

2. Delivery of a menu of 22 approved onsite and online adult drug court curricula.

 

3. Provision of jurisdictional or site-specific technical assistance.

 

4. Provision of state-based technical assistance.

 

5. Management of the National Drug Court Resource Center.

 

 

 

Providers selected for all five categories are expected to participate as part of a drug court TTA collaborative to assist state, tribal, and local justice system officials and treatment professionals to implement evidence-based drug court practices.

OJJDP FY 2012 EUDL Field-Initiated Research and Evaluation Program

OJJDP’s Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Field-Initiated Research and Evaluation (FIRE) Program will support methodologically rigorous research and evaluation studies that inform policy and practice consistent with the Department of Justice’s mission.

 

OJJDP will fund field-initiated studies to understand the factors that influence the prevention of underage drinking, the enforcement of underage drinking laws, and individuals’ and communities’ attitudes and behaviors about underage drinking.
