Kenmore, NY – New York Congressman Brian Higgins met with Catholic Health associates and leadership at Kenmore Mercy on Wednesday to learn more about the hospital’s $14 million new emergency department project.
“Kenmore Mercy has provided high-quality care to the residents of Buffalo’s northern communities for more than 60 years. Visits like this one are a valuable reminder of the hospital’s commitment to care and to the community,” said Congressman Higgins.
While visiting Kenmore Mercy, Congressman Higgins spoke with the hospital’s president and CEO James Millard and Catholic Health President & CEO Joe McDonald who shared architectural renderings of the emergency department project expected to be complete in summer 2013.
A tour of the existing department followed to demonstrate the space constraints of a facility last modified in 1996. Late in the morning, Congressman Higgins toured the construction site of the Kenmore Mercy Hospital’s new Emergency Department.
“Between regional growth and the inevitable need to stay current in a rapidly changing healthcare environment, the hospital has outgrown its current space,” James Millard, hospital president & CEO said. “Our new emergency room, the front door the hospital for many of our patients, will enable us to provide the most advanced care for life threatening medical emergencies, as well as more prompt and efficient care to expedite the treatment of minor medical emergencies.”
Designed to care for up to 40,000 patients a year, the new 24,000 square-foot facility, located on the south side of the hospital, will include 25 rooms, a larger waiting room and new ambulance bay, with enhanced safety, efficiency, and privacy.
With the foundation poured and construction of the basement begun, the new emergency department project is well under way at the northtown hospital.
