Northwest Whitfield softball completes successful region title defense

Northwest Whitfield won the Region 7-4A tournament title today at Heritage Point with a 3-2 victory against Heritage-Catoosa.

This is the Lady Bruins' third region title in four years, and second consecutive, but their first under first-year head coach Jason Brooker. Northwest beat the Lady Generals by the same score on Wednesday to advance to the region championship game.

The championship assures the Lady Bruins will host the first two rounds of the Class 4A state playoffs, which begin next week. The only other area team that has clinched a spot in the playoffs is Dalton, which finished third in the region, losing 10-1 to Heritage just hours before the championship game.
