Washington – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Borough of Chambersburg Fire Department has been awarded a $65,430 Assistance to Firefighters Fire Prevention & Safety Program Award through the Department of Homeland Security.

“This is a great opportunity for the Borough of Chambersburg,” said Shuster. “The funds from this grant will allow the borough to continue its public outreach and educate its residents on fire safety, as well as provide their committed fire fighters who risk their lives every day with more valuable resources.”

This fire prevention grant, secured with the support of Shuster, is a Federal Emergency Management Agency Fire Prevention and Line Safety Education grant which allows the Borough to continue its fire prevention education program.

"This is one of the most important programs developed by the Chambersburg Fire Department and with the help of Congressman Shuster we are able to keep it going,” said Borough Manager Jeffrey Stonehill. “The town council is pleased to announce that we are able to continue the Borough¹s aggressive program of installing smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and training citizens in fire prevention despite budget pressure in the Chambersburg Emergency Services Department budget.”

“The Borough of Chambersburg and certainly the Fire Department and I would like to thank all of those persons that assisted us in acquiring the grant,” said Chambersburg Fire Department Chief, William Fitzgerald.

The equipment provided by the grant will include 1,000 10-year lithium powered smoke detectors, 500 plug-in carbon monoxide detectors, 1000 reflective address signs for building identification, PIECE OF PIE program advertising an Interactive Audience Response System, (IARS), and presentation computer, camera, software, and sound system.
