McCotter, King and McMorris Rodgers Engage Bloggers

We had a great conference call today with Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (MI), Rep. Steve King (IO) and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA). No matter how busy our members get, they are always delighted and impassioned to speak with bloggers who are attempting to the get the message out in their communities.

King said the current economic state "rivals any budget we've had since WW II" and is "twice as big as it's ever been before." He reminded callers that Obama recently said the New Deal actually did work, that FDR lost his nerve on spending and didn't spend enough money.

"Obama has decided he is going to throw everything into the earliest part of his term and whether he has a second term is not of significant consequence to the way he is conducting himself today..," said King.

McMorris Rodgers gave us a history lesson: "History teaches us that the pharoahs drove Egypt into bankruptcy building the pyramids....at least they got pyramids. All we're going to have is a mountain of debt. I think about my son, Cole, who will be two years old next month. By the time he's my age he's going to face a doubling of the tax burden just to keep up with the type of borrowing that is being proposed."

McCotter was on message, saying the Democrats are "asking you to spend $3.6 triiion on fixin's without giving you any steak. I prefer meatloaf but neither is the case when they do their budget. ...."

He also spoke on the recent AIG debacle: "My argument to Mr. Bernanke, who wants to unwind AIG overtime, is quite simply -- the time is now. AIG should be broken up, the healthy parts allowed to go, the toxic assets walled off and the taxpayer should not have to put more money into it...there are free market ways to do that."

Those were just a few snippets but catch the entire audio of the call here.
