Republicans: This Budget Doesn't Cut It

At the weekly Republican Leadership Press Conference today, Leader John Boehner (OH), Whip Eric Cantor (VA), Conference Chairman Mike Pence (IN), Conference Vice-Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA), Budget Ranking Member Paul Ryan (WI) and Rep. Cynthia Lummis (WY) spoke to the continuing battle against the bloated budget. Here are a few key lines from that address:

Boehner: ...if you look at the debt numbers in this budget you’ll see that over the next 6 years, President Obama will create more debt than his 43 predecessors have in the last 220 years.

Cantor: Our position is this budget is far out of the mainstream, and we wouldn’t have to see a campaign to try and convince moderate Democrats to support this budget if it was reflective of the mainstream of this country.

Pence: The President’s budget is the most fiscally irresponsible budget in the history of the United States...And even worse, it pays for this massive expansion of more government, more spending, and more bailouts on the backs of small business owners and working families and every American household in the form of the President’s national energy tax.

McMorris Rodgers: I think about my son Cole, you know, by the time he’s my age, he’s going to face a doubling of the tax burden just to keep up with this kind of borrowing. It is not sustainable. It is not fiscally responsible. We can do better and we must do better.

Ryan: We believe that we need to get our debt under control not out of control. We believe we should keep our taxes lower so we can grow our economy—not increases taxes on families and small businesses. We believe we need to have a government that gets back to living within its means and not spends its way into bankruptcy. Those are the differences between our two parties

Lummis: This budget taxes too much and it takes it out of the hides of the American people, placing a tax on their dreams and a cap on the American entrepreneurial dream.
