Republican Leadership Press Conference

 October 12, 2011

Participants:

 Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)

Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA)

Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)

Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX)

Conference Vice Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA)

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI)

Chairman Hensarling:

“As the Speaker said, when this Congress began, House Republicans put forth a plan for America’s job creators. Now in this plan, it means that if the president wants to spend money we don’t have for jobs that we never get, we will oppose him. We believe that as part of this plan America has to be on a fiscally sustainable path. If the president wants to increase taxes on job creators, we will oppose that. We are trying to ensure that there is a fairer, simpler, more competitive tax code. If the president is trying to impose a greater regulatory burden on our job creators—we’re trying to clean up that mess through our Plan for America’s Job Creators. But where the president wants to create jobs through trade, we will work with him hand in hand. And so all Republicans are proud today that we will finally see the culmination of years and years of work and help create jobs, through trade, in America today.”
