March Employee of the Month

Mrs. Phyllis Ashley, health occupations teacher at Ashe County High School, was surprised Monday, March 4, with a $25 gift card donated by Walmart and a bouquet of balloons for being selected ACS Employee of the Month. Superintendent Donnie Johnson shared the following student nomination that was submitted for this very deserving employee.

Nomination:
Mrs. Ashley is so much more than a teacher! She has inspired my life long career. She is an amazing woman! Mrs. Ashley has served as a role model, mentor, nurse, friend, and most importantly teacher. She has volunteered so much of her spare time to educate me and several other students. She has stayed after school to help me study several days past 5:00 pm. Mrs. Ashley is a wonderful teacher and deserves this more than any other teacher I have ever had.

Mrs. Ashley has been employed with Ashe County Schools since 1993.

Flu Information

Influenza (the flu) can be a serious disease that can occur in people of all ages, resulting in lost days from work and school to hospitalizations and sometimes even death.  Anyone can get sick from the flu and severity varies.  The first and most important step in protecting against the flu is to get a flu shot every season (information provided by the CDC).

The Ashe County Health Department is giving flu shots at no charge.  Walk in clinic hours are from 8 am-4:15 pm.  You can also receive a flu vaccination through your primary care physician, call and schedule this if you have not received a flu shot this season.
