- Very proud to help Century Box celebrate the groundbreaking of their expanded Chase Street facility today. My office worked closely with Century Box over the course of planning this expansion to make sure that they could remain in the Merrimack Valley for many years to come. The expansion will double the footprint of the company and add approximately 89 new jobs!

Did you watch Felix Baumgartner’s historic space jump? Soldier Systems Center Natick helped design some of the technology used to monitor Felix’s biometrics during the jump. This same technology will hopefully be used to monitor the health of our soldiers on the battlefield.

Check out CQ’s story this week about our work in Congress against military sexual assault. As the article outlines, military sexual assault is still far too common but we are beginning to make important strides. I will continue working with Rep. Mike Turner and our Military Sexual Assault Prevention Caucus to make sure the military has all the tools it needs to properly address these crimes.Congresswoman Niki Tsongas shared a link.
This morning I checked in with mayors, town managers and local officials to get an update on the extent of the damage. First responders, public workers and utility crews have been working around the clock to provide assistance, clear debris..., and get power back up and running. I’d like to thank them for urgently responding to those in need. For those of you still without power, be sure to report it to your utility company. Official estimated restoration times will come this afternoon after the utility companies assess the damage.See MoreCongresswoman Niki Tsongas shared a link.
I just got off a call with the Governor who updated me on the status of local, state, and federal coordination in preparing for Hurricane Sandy. Today is Food Day here in the Commonwealth and across the nation, a day we celebrate healthy eating and locally produced food. Fall is the perfect time of year to visit one of our over 500 Fifth District farms and enjoy the season’s produce!- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and as a strong supporter of the Violence Against Women Act, I was outraged earlier this year when the House passed a significantly weakened version of this groundbreaking legislation. VAWA helps protect victims of domestic violence, helps women escape abusive relationships, and represented an historic step forward for women’s rights. If you need to talk to a confidential domestic violence councilor or have a friend who does, call the Massachusetts SafeLink Hotline at 1-877-785-2020.
