Congressman Carter Reaction to President's State of the Union Address
01/31/06Washington, Jan 31, 2006 -
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative John R. Carter made the following statement in response to the President’s State of the Union address:
“The President laid out an optimistic and clear path to keeping our nation great. America is the best country in the world to live and do business, and the President and Congress are committed to seeing it stay that way. I believe the President’s initiatives will allow our country to continue reaping the benefits of a strong economy.
“I agree that the time has come for our nation to decrease its dependency on foreign oil. We can accomplish this through new technologies, as well as conservation. Congress took a step in the right direction in this area with passage of the Energy Bill, and we will continue to advance these ideas.
“I also believe that more needs to be done to help make healthcare more affordable for individuals and families throughout our nation. It also is important that we take care of our local doctors so they might be able to continue offering their valuable services, especially in rural areas.
“We must also remember that we are a nation at war, fighting an enemy who hates the freedom so many throughout our country’s history have fought to secure. We remember our soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and our thoughts and prayers remain for their families. As we continue this fight, we will continue to support our troops at home and abroad, we will implement measures to protect our border, and we will see that law enforcement receives the tools it needs to protect America. I will continue to support the President in initiatives that will make this security possible, so we might continue to live under a blanket of freedom.”
