Congressional Award Gold Medal Presented to Round Rock Brothers Michael and Allen Hearn

For Immediate Release: November 28, 2011

(ROUND ROCK, TX) – Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) today presented the Congressional Award Gold Medal to Round Rock brothers Michael and Allen Hearn.

“Michael and Allen have demonstrated an enormous commitment to improving their community, and these awards are fully deserved,” said Carter.  “Through the many hours of community service they have donated, to the hard work of personal improvement they have demonstrated through scouting, they exemplify the character traits we hope to instill in the next generation of Americans.”

The Congressional Award is the United States Congress' achievement award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all 14- to 23-year-olds. Participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.

Both Michael and Allen volunteered more than 400 hours of community service functions sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.  For personal development, the brothers participated in sailing and boating, and completed the Expedition phase through backpacking 55 miles in northern New Mexico at the Philmont Scout Ranch.  For Physical Fitness requirements, Allen trained in cross county and bicycling, while Michael engaged in swimming.
