Congressional Art Contest Winner Announced

CONGRESSMAN CARTER ANNOUNCES WINNER OF CONGRESSIONAL ART CONTEST

ROUND ROCK– Congressman John Carter is proud to announce the winning artist of the 2011 Congressional Art Competition; Chandler Allen,who attends Georgetown High School. The inventive piece is titled “Birds of Prey” and will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year. Chandler will receive two free tickets to Washington D.C. from Southwest Airlines to attend a reception honoring the winners from across the nation.

“I’m so proud of Chandler for her original piece and the other students who represented the 31stDistrict by submitting their artwork to the contest,” said Congressman Carter. “Utilizing the imagination is an important part of earning an education and I hope they will continue to use art to share their creativity.”

Chosen from 64 entries, the pieces were judged by renowned artists who live in the district; Dalhart Windberg, Jack Terry and Gilbert Sauceda. Since 1982 members of the House of Representatives have recognized the talents and gifts of their young constituents and more than 650,000 high school students have contributed their original art to the nationwide contest.
