Dr. Davis Award Given for Outstanding Government Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Carter (TX-31) joined members of the American Medical Association (AMA) in honoring Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs with the Dr. Nathan Davis Awards. Congressman Carter nominated Commissioner Combs for this award because of her continued efforts to fight the battle against obesity, to educate children and families about healthy heating, and to promote healthy nutrition in Texas schools.

The AMA Dr. Davis Awards were established in 1989, and are one of the most prestigious forms of recognition for outstanding public service in the advancement of public health.

“I am pleased that the American Medical Association panel has recognized Commissioner Combs for her outstanding efforts to provide a healthy food environment for all of our schoolchildren. I believe Susan’s vision and hard work will enhance the quality of children’s lives forever, making her a deserving recipient for this award,” Congressman Carter said.
