CONG. CARTER URGES SENATE TO SECURE BORDERS
03/16/06Washington, Mar 16, 2006 -
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Carter (TX-31) is joining House colleagues in asking the Senate Judiciary Committee to remain committed to border security as they consider border security reforms. The Senate Committee is currently addressing this issue, and Congressman Carter and his colleagues want to ensure that the measures passed by the House last year remain intact. The letter was sent in response to Senate proposals that would weaken the House reforms.
“The border security bill passed by the House last year takes real action to secure our nation’s borders. It is my hope that these important reforms will not be weakened as the Senate considers this important issue,” Congressman Carter said. “We must ensure tougher enforcement of our laws, stronger penalties to act as deterrents, and develop a comprehensive plan to plug the leak in our borders. This is a homeland security issue that can only be effective through significant reforms.”
