CARTER WINS FUNDS FOR REVEGETATION OF FORT HOOD
07/20/07Washington, D.C., Jul 20, 2007 -
U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31), a member of the Appropriations Committee, announced that $495,000 for range revegetation at Fort Hood has been included in the 2008 Agriculture Appropriations bill.
“This is the first step to secure funds to revegetate 30,000 acres of native grasses where heavy artillery traffic has disturbed soils and left the land largely without vegetation,” Congressman Carter said. “The environmental benefits of this project are immense and I am pleased that I was able to secure funds for such an important project at Fort Hood.”
Passage of the bill in full committee is the first step to ensure that these important funds are provided to Fort Hood. The full House is expected to take up the 2008 Agriculture Appropriations bill next week, where, if passed, the bill will continue to the Senate for further consideration. If passed in the Senate the bill will proceed to a Conference Committee where both Houses of Congress will create a compromise bill to be presented to the President for signing.
