Carter Re-Elected as GOP Conference Secretary

Carter Re-Elected as GOP Conference Secretary

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congressman John Carter of Texas has been re-elected this afternoon to an unprecedented third term as Republican Conference Secretary. Carter was unopposed.

"This is a tremendous honor and privilege to be able to serve my fellow Members once again," said Carter. "While my previous two terms have been while we were the minority, our new majority status, especially with the enormous freshman class, gives us the opportunity to expand the role and service opportunities of this office to new levels."

Carter was instrumental this term in coordinating Republican after-hours floor speeches on key issues such as the ethics violations of key Democrats in Congress and the Administration, along with Rule of Law violations of Congress and the White House. Carter also publishes the GOP Job Bank for Republican Capitol Hill employment opportunities, and serves as a liaison for rank-and-file GOP Members with Leadership. Carter played a key role in coordinating between House Leadership and state efforts to challenge the recently passed Obama health care plan.

"Regaining the majority gives us an incredible opportunity on the major theme I set for the Secretary's office - restoring the Rule of Law in this country," says Carter. "While the last two terms have been playing defense on this issue, we can now start to play some offense, and instead of just opposing bad ideas, start advocating real reforms that work to preserve our Constitutional rights."

The Secretary position is one of eight elected Republican leadership positions in the House for the upcoming session of Congress.
