Carter Calls Texans to Pray for America on National Day of Prayer
05/03/12Carter Calls Texans to Pray for America on National Day of Prayer
(ROUND ROCK, TX) – Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) today participated in services recognizing the annual National Day of Prayer at Texas Baptist Children’s Home Chapel in Round Rock.
Multiple public officials led specific prayers for the city, state and nation during the service. Carter led prayers for the nation in his role representing Central Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.
A National Day of Prayer dates to the founding of the nation. The current version was passed into law in 1952 (36 U.S.C. § 119), and establishes the first Thursday in May as the annual day of observance. The law states, “The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”
