CARTER CALLS ON DEMOCRATS TO DENOUNCE MOVEON.ORG AD
09/10/07U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31), House Conference Secretary, issued the following statement calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and all Democrats to denounce the full-page MoveOn.org ad defaming General Petraeus in today’s New York Times:
“This partisan war in Washington has to stop. This latest move by the severe anti-war organization is a shameful, disrespectful attack on the integrity of General Petraeus, and any member of Congress-Republican or Democrat-should denounce an attack that is so outright distasteful.
“General Petraeus has dedicated thirty years to the security of our nation. He is leading our men and women in uniform who are fighting a war unlike any other war our country has faced. They are risking their lives for our freedom and the security of the American people, including those Americans associated with MoveOn.org. To hear attacks like this one from home during the anniversary week of 9/11 only discourages our soldiers and emboldens our enemy.
“Now is the time to show our enemies that the security of our nation is more important than party politics and cheap shots from the home front. As Americans, we owe General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker the courtesy of listening to their honest report about what is going on in Iraq, and then we must work together to face the challenges that lie ahead in Iraq.”
