CARTER ANNOUNCES DISASTER RELIEF ELIGIBILITY FOR HAMILTON, CORYELL, AND ERATH COUNTIES
06/30/06Washington, DC, Jun 30, 2006 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31) has announced that the Farm Service Agency has designated Hamilton County as a primary natural disaster area, due to losses incurred due to drought conditions suffered since January 1, 2006. Two other counties which have sustained production losses due to the same conditions, Coryell and Erath, were designated as contiguous disaster counties. These designations make farmers eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.
“Drought conditions are a harsh reality for many Texas farmers and ranchers,” Congressman Carter said. “This designation will provide much needed assistance to farmers throughout the District 31 who sustained significant losses due to drought conditions. Without this assistance, many local farmers would have difficulty sustaining operations.”
The Farm Service Agency provides assistance to farmers or ranchers whose operations have suffered losses due to a natural disaster. Applications for these emergency loans will be received through January 31, 2007.
