Brazos River Grant Approved in U.S. House Committee Action
(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Brazos River Authority could receive $300,000 through an Army Corps of Engineers grant, following a funding request by Congressman John R. Carter (R-TX) that was included in final Appropriations Committee action on the Fiscal Year Energy and Water Appropriations Act.
This program would investigate increasing the water supply of the Middle Brazos Basin. The Corps and the Brazos River Authority (BRA) are evaluating the feasibility of increasing the water supply of the Middle Brazos basin by raising lake levels, as part of a long-term project aimed at developing additional water at existing reservoir sites for future needs.
"As Central Texas continues its explosive growth, it is critical that we build our water supplies to keep up with the population. I am pleased these funds were included in the final committee markup and am proud to have worked closely with the Corps of Engineers and the Brazos River Authority to ensure Central Texas has a water infrastructure that is consistent with our growth," Carter said. "I am hopeful that these funds will remain in final passage of both the House and Senate versions of the Appropriations bill, and I will work to see that happen," Carter added.
Congressman Carter has made similar requests for the Brazos River Authority in the past. The bill is now pending approval by the full House of Representatives and the Senate before being sent to the White House.
