McMorris Rodgers Votes to Support Troops on the Battlefield and in the Classroom

(Washington, D.C.) This week, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers voted for the emergency supplemental bill to keep funding our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. H.R. 2642 also modernizes the Montgomery G.I. bill. The measure passed the house 268 to 155.

The bill provides $162 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, which will fund the war into next year. The bill also increases college aid for military service members who enrolled after September 11, 2001. In addition to those education benefits, veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan can transfer those benefits to their spouses or children.

“The men and women from Fairchild Air Force Base are a key enabler in fighting the Global War on Terror. It’s important we give them, and the rest of our military members, what they need to continue their success in Iraq and Afghanistan,” McMorris Rodgers said. “In addition, it’s one of my priorities to ensure our veterans and their families receive the kind of benefits they’ve earned. Providing them with what they need for an education after life in the military is a small tribute to their sacrifice and dedication.”
