The bill would authorize $10 million annually for the women and homeless veterans with children program, through 2014.
The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) was established in 1987 to provide services to homeless veterans such as job training, counseling, and job placement. The program provides grants to entities that provide such services to homeless veterans, and is operated by the Department of Labor's Veteran Employment and Training Services (VETS). H.R. 1171 would also create a new program specifically for providing similar job training services to women veterans and homeless veterans with children. According to the report, the Department of Veterans' Affairs held 157 local events for homeless veterans in 2008, and 2,347 of the participants were women, while 1,327 participants were children.
According to CBO, H.R. 1171 would authorize $60 million annually and $300 million over five.
