MALONEY AMENDMENT TO PROTECT BREASTFEEDING ON FEDERAL PROPERTY PASSES IN THE HOUSE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Late last night, an amendment introduced by Congressional Women’s Caucus Co- Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) to ensure that none of the funds made available in Treasury, Postal appropriations may be used to implement, administer, or enforce any prohibition on women breastfeeding their children in Federal buildings or on Federal property, passed by a voice vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mr. Chairman, Mrs. Maloney, Mr. Davis, thank you for this opportunity to present and answer questions on the Census 2000 Operation Plan, first sent to you six weeks ago, and now refined to incorporate the evaluation based on the Census Bureau's Dress Rehearsal experience. I have submitted written testimony, and will now more briefly comment on issues raised in the letter of invitation to appear before this Subcommittee.

New York Reps Reintroduce Helicopter Regulation Bill

NEW YORK, NY - Three members of the New York Congressional delegation, Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney, Jerrold Nadler and Edolphus Towns, have reintroduced a bill they originally introduced in the 105th Congress to regulate helicopters in New York City.  The bill, which did not pass the Republican-controlled Congress last session, will give the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) the authority to regulate helicopters in New York City. The city and state governments are powerless to control the noise caused by the city’s helicopters and heliports.

Maloney (D-NY), a long time advocate of redeveloping Governors Island with a mix of public and private use, was alarmed to read in today's Daily News that gambling empire Caesars World and possibly other gambling companies are looking at Governors Island as a site for a casino. REPS. MALONEY AND MANTON ANNOUNCE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL GRANT TO NEW YORK CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT #30

Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney and Thomas J. Manton announced today that Community School District #30 in Queens has been selected to receive more than $2 million in funding for FY98 under the Magnet Schools Assistance Program. Over the next three years, the District is slated to receive $6.8 million, subject to Congressional appropriations.
