The proposed tower would be completely out of context in the Carnegie Hill Historic District. NEW YORK, NY -- Today, after reading a New York Times report that the White House is recommending that the independent Ex-Im Bank cancel a planned $500 million loan guarantee for a Russian oil company, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), who has been closely following these guarantees for several months, praised the decision and announced her intention to introduce Ex-Im reform legislation next year. The company in question, Tyumen Oil, is widely reported to have manipulated the bankruptcy of a rival Russian oil company connected to numerous U.S. investors.

MALONEY BILL TO GRANT VET STATUS TO PHILANTHROPIST ZACH FISHER IS SIGNED INTO LAW BY PRESIDENT

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Last night President Clinton signed Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney's (D-NY) bill into law, House Joint Resolution 46. HJ Res. 46 grants honorary veteran status to Zachary Fisher. Mr. Fisher, a resident of Maloney's district, devoted his life to supporting the American military. The President, when awarding Mr. Fisher with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1998, called Mr. Fisher one of the "best friends of freedom this country ever had."
