New York, NY   Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and NYS Assembly Member Dan Quart joined New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott to applaud an agreement struck between the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) and the Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic parish to sign a 15-year lease allowing the site, which once had housed a parochial school, to be used for a new public elementary school, P.S. 527, for a period of fifteen years.

Rep. Maloney Hails Inclusion of Full Federal Funding for Second Avenue Subway, East Side Access in House Appropriations Budget

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) today hailed the inclusion of $123,384,621 for the Second Avenue Subway and $215,000,000 for the East Side Access project connecting Long Island Railroad to Grand Central Terminal in the House Transportation, Housing & Urban Development (THUD) appropriation proposed for Fiscal Year 2013, which was presented to the House Appropriations Committee today. Both figures reflect the amounts requested for each project by the Obama administration in its proposed FY ’13 budget.

Rep. Maloney Applauds Latest Federal Funding for Second Avenue Subway

New York, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens) today hailed the awarding by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) of $197,182,000 in funds for the Second Avenue Subway.  Representative Maloney has fought for decades to secure federal funding for the vital infrastructure project, which is one of the biggest in the nation and will add the first new capacity to New York City’s sprawling underground transit network in more than sixty years. The Subway is located almost entirely in New York’s 14th Congressional District, which Maloney represents.

Representatives Maloney, Nadler & King Praise 9/11 Health Program Recommendation on Cancer Coverage

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Peter T. King (R-NY), the House sponsors of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act, commended the proposal by Dr. John Howard, Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health and the administrator of the World Trade Center Health Program, that the Program accept the entire set of recommendations issued previously by its Science/Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) to provide coverage for certain types of cancer resulting from exposure to toxins released at Ground Zero. Dr. Howard’s recommendations were issued in documents today, which will be subject to public review and comment for 30 days before being implemented.
