Tippecanoe County is comprised of 13 townships encompassing 500 square miles with over 66,000 real estate parcels.
The State of Indiana is adjusting to the change from a cost approach of assessing to a market value approach of assessing. Annual trending is performed with the goal of bring assessments in line with market values for the two years prior to the current tax year. Tippecanoe County Assessor complies with Indiana Assessing Statutes as well as International Association of Assessing Official Standards.
In order to comply with House Bill 1001, which was signed into law March 2008 and the voters choice to the referendum in November 2008, the County Assessor has taken over the assessing responsibilities of all townships. The County Assessor has divided the functions that fall under her jurisdiction into different offices; Inheritance Field and Data with hard copies of property record cards will now be on the third floor of the County Building as well as Appeals and Non for Profits. To accommodate taxpayers that need to file sales disclosures and visit other County Offices, the Sales Disclosure Office will remain on the second floor in the same office as Inheritance and Personal Property.
The County Assessor thanks the taxpayers for their support and patience during this transition. As always we are open to comments and suggestions from the public as our goal is not only to provide fair and accurate assessments but to provide the highest of standards in professional customer service, as it is the taxpayers the Assessor serves.
