Williamson County Sheriff's Office Wins Federal Grant
09/17/09(WASHINGTON, DC) -- A grant from the U.S. Department of Justice will allow Williamson County to prevent and control crime, Congressman John Carter (R-TX) announced today.
The $20,776 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant will enhance the Sheriff Department’s communications capabilities.
"As a former Williamson County judge, I’m pleased that the county will be able to put this money toward preventing crime and improving its operations," Carter said.
The grant will be used for purchasing two wall-mounted display boards, two mobile electronic tablets, computer network software, a speed detection laser, uniform apparel and protective equipment.
The department’s ultimate goal is to improve operations between field officers, the 911 call center, and the emergency operations center.
Officer Edward Byrne joined the New York City police department in 1987. In the early morning hours of February 26, 1988, Officer Byrne was on detail protecting a witness when two gunmen approached him and opened fire, killing Byrne.
