Carter Secures Funding for Big Creek Watershed
05/09/06Washington, May 9, 2006 - U.S. Representative John Carter (TX-31), a member of the Appropriations Committee, announced today that the Committee has approved his request for $650,000 for the Big Creek (Tri-County) Watershed of the Brazos River in the Fiscal Year 2007 Agriculture Appropriations bill. The funding will assist with costs to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) associated with the preliminary work and permitting for a number of watershed sites. Once constructed, the watershed sites would assist with flood control and would serve as a new water reservoir for the City of Marlin.
“I am pleased to have helped secure funding for this valuable watershed program in Falls County and the City of Marlin. This funding is the first step in enhancing the quality of water for area residents as well as controlling future flooding,” Congressman Carter said. “By working to maintain a dependable water supply, the region will be able to sustain its current population as well as future growth.”
The agriculture appropriations bill now awaits action by the full House.
