Donnelly, Boren announce “Blue Dog Small Business Package”
Coalition endorses legislation to promote job growth, America’s small businesses
September 15, 2011

Washington - Today, under the leadership of Congressman Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Congressman Dan Boren of Oklahoma, the Blue Dog Coalition released the Blue Dog Small Business Package, legislation aimed at providing small business owners the resources they need to grow their businesses and hire new workers.

“Economic growth is my number one concern right now—we must put people to work,” said Donnelly.  “By extending two existing SBA programs, we would keep available to small businesses specific tools to invest, grow, and protect jobs.  By improving The Small Business Act to increase small business procurement goals, we would set expectations a little higher for federal agencies to provide small business owners with greater opportunities and fewer barriers to providing products and services to their government.  I am pleased to have worked with Congressman Boren and all of my colleagues in the Blue Dog Coalition on these common-sense, fiscally responsible ways to improve our economy.”

As Chair and Vice-Chair of the Blue Dog Task Force on Economic Growth, Donnelly and Boren are leading the Coalition’s efforts to advance common sense, middle-of-the-road policies that promote job growth and economic recovery.

“Small businesses are the economy’s number one job creator,” said Boren.  “The three bills introduced today by the Blue Dog Coalition will provide resources to small businesses that they can use to access capital, grow their operations, and increase employment. Blue Dogs are heeding the call from the American people for Congress to focus its attention on improving the economy and creating jobs. This legislative package rightly moves us in that direction. Going forward, I look forward to working with Congressman Donnelly and my fellow Blue Dogs on these measures and to advance other ideas to promote economic growth.”

Specifically, the Blue Dog Small Business Package consists of three bills that promote job growth in America by providing small businesses with increased access to capital through streamlined approval processes, lower interest rates on SBAEXPRESS loans, increased access to government contracts, as well as the opportunity to lock in long-term, stable financing.  Click here to learn more.

“As a former small business owner, I know it's our small businesses who will lead the way in private-sector job growth, which is the only way we are going to pull through this economic recovery and sustain that growth in the long term,” said Congressman Mike Ross (D-AR), Blue Dog Co-Chair.  “While the far right and far left are busy playing political games, attacking one another and trying to win the next election, the Blue Dogs are focused on finding bipartisan, commonsense solutions that will create jobs and get our fiscal house back in order.  I commend the leadership of Congressmen Donnelly and Boren on this issue and I urge every member of Congress to ‘walk the walk’ on bipartisanship and seriously consider this proposal.”

The Blue Dog Task Force on Economic Growth is primarily focused on creating a positive economic climate geared toward bolstering growth and promoting innovation. Under the leadership of Chair Joe Donnelly (IN-02) and Vice-Chair Dan Boren (OK-02), the Task Force works to advance policies that accelerate the economic recovery, create opportunities for middle class Americans to rejoin the workforce and assist small business owners grow their companies.
